The Third Cohort of Court Registrars from the Judiciary of Bhutan, Namgay Dorji and Ngawang Yonten, has completed a three-month Clerkship Programme at the Supreme Court of India, held from July to September 2026. The programme continues the judicial exchange established under the Memorandum of Understanding between the Supreme Court of Bhutan and the Supreme Court of India.

Over the three months, the Court Registrars worked as law clerks with Hon'ble Justices of the Supreme Court of India, including Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah, Justice Manoj Misra, Justice Aravind Kumar, Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, Justice K.V. Viswanathan, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice S.V.N. Bhatti. Their work included assisting on matters before the benches and observing proceedings, which gave them first-hand exposure to the adjudication of complex cases and to courtroom management in one of the busiest apex courts in the world. The Hon'ble Chief Justice of India granted the Court Registrars an audience and also permitted them to observe proceedings in his Court and to work on matters before it.

The Court Registrars also attended the International Conference Commemorating the 60th Anniversary of UNCITRAL, held from 24 to 26 July 2026. As part of the programme, they made study visits to the Delhi High Court, district courts in Delhi, the Aurangabad Bench of the Bombay High Court and the Aurangabad District Court. At these courts they met Judges, observed hearings, and studied court facilities such as libraries, in-court banking services and child-friendly rooms.

The completion of the third cohort is another milestone in the partnership between the Judiciaries of Bhutan and India. The Clerkship Programme continues to support professional development, institutional learning and the exchange of best practices between the two judiciaries. As of October 2026, the fourth cohort of the programme is underway, with Legal Officer Sonam Palden and Court Registrar Kuenzang Deki Wangmo currently undertaking their clerkship at the Supreme Court of India.
